Gilbert Nunez Sr.

Trainer / Health Coach

I have been involved in sports and fitness for over forty years. At seventeen I joined the Army. After my time in the military, I came home with the passion and appreciation for physical fitness. That's when I started body building. I had no interest in competing professionally, I just enjoyed working out. I was fascinated with the progress in my strength and conditioning as well as the physical trans-formation. I learned and absorbed a lot from the countless books I read along with putting it into practice.

In the early 90's my wife and I moved to Texas to start our family. I never faltered, I worked out regularly. Over the years I would continue to play softball and incorporate MMA (mixed martial arts).

In 1997 I suffered a work related injury, L4 herniated, L5 & S1 degenerative discs. At the time surgery was not an option for me. Instead I took a few months off from doing any physical activity and took to the books again. I knew that eventually surgery would be inevitable, so I became very in tuned with my body. Than I continued to strength and condition myself. By early 1998 I was able to resume playing softball & MMA, never having any issues until December 2007.

In April of 2008, I underwent a 360 degree lumbar fusion surgery. The morning after the surgery I walked two laps around the nurses station. I did three weeks of assisted PT, the rest I did myself at home. I was back to work in August 2008, no restrictions. I can attest that my quick and full recovery was due to the years of strengthening and conditioning my body before and especially after I was first advised of the degree of my injury. In 2009 I resumed my pre-op activities.

After the surgery, my interest in weight training was heightened, not only because of what it did for me, but how it could benefit so many others as well. So after 25  years of experience at the time I proceeded to take the steps to turn a life long passion into a career.

Today I’m Certifield Fitness Trainer (ISSA), NESTA Speed, Agility & Quickness Specialist Certified (SAQ) Kettlebell Coach (KBC), Phusique & Figure Training Specialist (PFTS), Sports Nutrition Specialist (SNS), TRX Suspension, Primal Health Coach (PHC) certified. I also hold a Blue belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. Working out can be very complex, it takes a lot of effort, determination and proper understanding of the body’s anatomy. That is what I offer when I train a client, detailed explanations and emphasis in proper form. Once they master that, results come easy.

Aside for my love of training, I enjoy the great outdoors, mountain bike riding, kayaking, hiking and camping. When I’m not working out  or training a client, I love putting workout routines together…after all Exercise = Health = Life!!
